About this service

Benefits adviser

The Benefits adviser is a service provided by the Department for Work and Pensions, available through the Directgov website.

The Benefits adviser provides a signposting service that directs you to further information on benefits that may be relevant to your circumstances. By answering 12 simple questions about your circumstances or the circumstances of someone you care for you will be signposted to information on benefits that may be relevant to your current circumstances.

Please note the following:

  • the results the Benefits adviser service provides are an estimate of what you might get
  • the results are based only on your answers to the Benefits adviser service questions
  • the questions asked by the Benefits adviser service and the results given do not form part of a claim to any benefit or tax credit
  • a claim to benefit or tax credit can only be made by completing the appropriate claim form and sending it to your local office.
  • The Benefits adviser service covers the following 13 benefits and tax credits:
    • Attendance Allowance
    • Carer's Allowance
